Motorcycle Live

Postby P-K » Thu Nov 22, 2018 12:47 pm

Went to the bike show at the NEC with a couple of mates on Tuesday.
Enjoyed it - the new R1250 Boxer bikes look stunning.

However, I can't help but think that the NEC is a rip off.
£25 entrance fee
£16 Car park
£6 burger
£5 pint of warm beer.

Ouch

Phil,
I was there on Tuesday too !
Agree on the R1250 machines, although the "Spezial" colour scheme with mottled brown seat definitely is not to my taste ! The guy doing the off road demo made it look ridiculously easy to ride a R1250GS at less than walking pace - and in 4th gear !
Can't argue about the food and drink, but I pre-ordered my (senior citizen's) ticket and parking and paid a lot less than the prices quoted above 😆
I had a good day out followed by a very long drive home.

£16 Car park
That's the on-the-day price and besides why not take a motorcycle and park free?

I think the last time I went to the NEC motorcycle show many moons ago, I went by train (from High Wycombe). Last time I was at the NEC for anything was last year for the Motorhome and Caravan Show - an event where the car parking is included in the £9.50 (advanced) ticket price.

So yes, in comparison to that it's a much dearer show.

Went Saturday - prepaid ticket was £25 (but came with Oxford Disc lock) prepaid parking £10 (apparently this is an NEC charge to discourage cars rather than a Motorcycle live extortion). On the flip side got £50 discount on IAM course (which I was planning to enrol for in the Spring) and ordered some custom fit ear plugs without having to pay the £25 additional ear mold charge.

Had a quick chat with Teapotone (Bruce Smart) - really nice bloke.....

It’s such a money pit I’ve stopped going as i find new bikes characterless but that’s only my opinion. Much prefer Stafford classic show.
