New Scam?

Postby boxerman » Tue Dec 06, 2016 11:26 pm

Now I rarely if ever post warnings of email scams as most are so obvious and long lived that we all know of them but over the last week I've had two that are something that I've never seen before and could be taken seriously by the unwary.

No.1 received last week was a 'Reminder Notice' of an outstanding 'Parking Charge' from private parking company - whilst I've never had any ticket these companies are renowned for ripping off folk. Was a little suspicious as there was actually no link to pay from so did a quick check on the domain name and it took me to an admin log-in site in Russia.
No.2 was received tonight and an apparent NIP for speeding from Manchester Police (this did have a payment link). Now I know that NIP's must be posted so I immediately did a check on the domain name and, again, it took me straight to Russia.

Just a gentle warning for those that aren't too PC savvy

thanks, the sort of thing my mother would fall for, especially if there was a "You think this is a mistake-- Click Here" button

I nearly fell for an email from 'apple' confirming my order for Netflix. The catch is to click on the cancel link and it goes wrong from there. I spoke to Apple and they say lots have been caught by it

Best advice I can give anyone about scams is "Never Click On Anything"

You don't know what link is under the click, and you are also confirming that the email address is a live one.
