Re: serial number
From the web:-
"R1200
On a metal plate welded near the head stock either facing up or in viewed by looking between the top cover and the handlebars
A VIN sticker may be found on the left hand frame in the centre above the engine or under the seat
engine code may be on the right hand side and in the centre of the engine cover"

Re: serial number
Hi NO---
BUT a BMW dealer MAY have some records of recalls/services etc.
BMW, who made it after all, should have records of where it was delivered to, manufacturing date, colour, "options" etc. Some of that can be obtained for most of the range from BoxerMan's site.
I know this is UK specific but may give you some ideas
In the UK we can buy the list of previous owners from our Vehicle Licensing Authority. Do you have the same in the USofA? In the UK we can get MoT, annual vehicle test information, mileage, advisory notices etc which I think shows test station location AND you can get the number of a vehicle type listed both as Active use and Passive (SORN) ownership, which gives you some info on "rareness".
Come on show us a picture,
How does it ride, they have a reputation for being much better than people think.

Hi
Ced's instructions for picture posting
Ced's instructions for picture posting
GeorgePosting Photos:
METHOD 1:
Using the Forum 'Upload Attachment' method you are limited to uploading a picture of not more than 1200 x 1200 pixels max dimensions, 250Kbytes max file size.
Any problems will be advised when you try it. You can then add up to three pictures/post.
Here's how:
1. Go to 'Full Editor & Preview'.
2. Scroll down and select 'Attachments' tab.
3. Select 'Add files' and browse for your picture (max 1200x1200 pixels and 250Kb filesize).
4. Add any 'File Comments' to be attached to the pic.
5. Place your cursor in the post where you want the pic to be located.
6. Select 'Place Inline'.
7. Repeat from (2) above for up to a total of three pics/post.
8. Select 'Submit'.
If your pics are too big (max 1200x1200 pixels and 250Kb filesize), see the following depending on the device you are using:
Windows: I use Windows Paint (tabs Home/Resize) which allows you to resize a pic and save it under a different filename
e.g. 'existing filename'_ small.
iPad/iPhone: For iPad/iPhone photo resize, go to the App Store and download a free Photo Resize App such as 'Simple Resize'.
Mac: For Mac photo resize go to the Preview application where there is a resize function.
