Communication systems?

Postby Rugbycoach » Sun Apr 01, 2018 9:35 am

Does anyone know if it is possible to connect any bluetooth earphone set to and inter phone system. I have head sets already installed and am looking to try and find something to connect on a listen only using my inter phone. I currently have rider to pillion and rider to rider but just would like a low cost 3rd listen only facility for a 3rd independent rider. I don't want to go down the par route or have the chore of fitting an extra inter phone with different riders each time. if I can purchase a set of blue tooth earphones which any rider could use that would be easy if possible?

Hi Colin,

I think a third 'listen only' might work as long as the main device supports pairing to a third device.
However, I'm not sure if your Interphone device will be 'coded' to work only with another Interphone device - you can only try and see if it will work.

There are plenty of cheap (circa £5) Bluetooth headsets available on Ebay to try out.
However I think that the maximum range will only be around 20 feet.

Here is a Bluetooth 'Sport' headband which I used on my bike to pick up my iPhone satnav App at one time:

It fits behind the neck under a helmet.

Hi Colin,

I think that a 400m range is optimistic!
Bluetooth generally relies on 'line-of-sight' communication and 100m would be a very good result if achieved.

I think the best chance would be for the 3rd Bluetooth device to pick up the comms from the Interphone when the Master is in 'bike-bike' mode if you can get it to do this.
You need a cheap Bluetooth headset as posted earlier to try this function out.
Bluetooth is backward compatible so there is a good chance of simple functionality between different Bluetooth Classes.

Here is a tech article on Bluetooth which might be useful:
