Hi Everyone .... I have a question for the Collective.... -
I have just bought a 2015 RT SE LC - it does not have an alarm fitted !(Which i found hard to believe) I have seen advertised an alarm module with fob for a 2015 RT ... The question is ..will the wiring be there on the bike for it to just be plugged in ? And will it then work without a trip to the dealers for them to plugin the bike and tell it that it now has an alarm ? Thanks Regards John

Re: Alarm
Hi John,
You might want to re-think fitting an alarm and purchase a decent bike chain lock instead.
The problem with alarms is that they immobilise the bike which is only partially useful as an anti-theft while they are working properly.
I say only partially useful because, unlike a bike chained to a sizeable object, they do not prevent the bike being uplifted into a van and gone in less than 30 seconds.
Another problem with alarms is that they can fail for various reasons and one day you find that you are unable to start the bike.
The problem here is; is it the bike system which has failed or the alarm/immobiliser system?
In my opinion alarms/immobilisers are more trouble than they are worth.

Alarm
Hi ... The bike does not look to have it fitted ... Was / is it an optional extra on these "LC" bikes .... My 2011 had on fitted from new so was surprised to find it didn't have one as standard !!! The one I've seen is from a dismantled 2015 RT LC - Quite keen to have a BMW alarm if possible (I've had a price from a BMW Dealer to have one fitted - £260 Ouch) The one i've seen is £100 so i'm tempted if i can get it to work ....'but I also use a good Chain and lock'. Thanks

Re: Alarm
Hi John,
I don't know if the BMW Alarms were fitted as standard to some bikes or available as an optional extra.
You might try asking BMW Customer Support about this if you don't get an answer on the forum:

Here are the User Instructions for the BMW Alarm DWA6 which may be useful to have:

I was once stranded in the mountains of France when my immobiliser wouldn't un set.
Luckily had Euro breakdown cover.
The mechanic at the french garage it was taken too got it sorted, but told me it's very common with Datatool alarms.
Not willing to risk it again, I took him up on his offer of 100 euro's to remove it.
Never had one since.

Re: Alarm
Hi
DataTool alarm and immobilizer on my R seems to remove starter and spark. I carry a tamper-proof tork 10 iirc, 2 wire links and earplugs to bypass it when the time comes
When the old merc system failed it was just short 2 wires to take the immobilizer out of the system-- just a pity it meant dead battery and recovery home before I found the work round

Re: Alarm
Your 2015 RT SE LC bike has a very comprehensive immobiliser built in.
You don't need an alarm as well.

Re: Alarm
Alarm was an option on SE's …. standard on LE's.
All have built in immobiliser via the ring antenna, and BMW include Datatag too nowadays.
